Description: Het Kiel is a neighbourhood, just south of the city center. The district has a population of about 20.000 people and is characterized by its popular and multicultural character. The development of the neighbourhood was strongly influenced by two major events: the Olympic Games in 1920 and the World Exposition in 1930. In the district, several parts can be distinguished with a different spatial layout and building stock. The western part of the district contains a large number of social housing, including the high-rise blocks of  modernist architect Braem. The eastern part is characterized by low-rise private owned single family houses.
